The MOD has adopted a rigorous approach to safety management in procurement and operation, based around the construction of a safety case. However, unlike other regulated sectors such as oil, rail and nuclear, the defence sector must also contend with capability requirements which routinely place their employees in harm’s way. Safety management systems must therefore balance risk reduction against the wider implications of loss of capability.
Adelard’s involvement with the defence sector includes the following projects:
- Policy development and contribution to standards including Def Stan 00-55, Def Stan 00-56 and JSP 553
- Work for MOD Project and Delivery Teams, as well as industry leaders such as Boeing and Eurocopter
- ISA services, provision of guidance on the development of safety cases and provision of safety engineering support across Project Teams
