Def Stan 00-56 Course

Planning and managing the safety lifecycle

UK Defence Standard 00-56 (Safety Management of Defence Systems) has been revised and Issue 4 was released in June 2007. The new standard is radically different from the previous versions and adopts a "goal-based" approach, stating the high-level requirements for safety assurance without mandating particular methods or procedures.

The new standard also addresses the development of safety-related programmable systems (previously covered by Def Stan 00-55). The Safety Case and constituent safety claims, arguments and evidence is specifically addressed.

  • Def Stan 00-56 Course - Part 1
It provides attendees with the capability to develop a safety process, identify arguments and generate supporting evidence to comply with the standard.

  • Def Stan 00-56 Course - Part 2 (Optional)
It builds on the first two days to train a limited number of attendees in hands-on use of ASCE (Assurance and Safety Case Environment) in the construction of Safety Cases, and the development and presentation of Safety Case Reports. This work will be based on material presented and developed during Part 1.

Part 1 is limited to 16 attendees; Part 2 to 8 attendees.
Part 1 attendance is a requirement for attendance at Part 2.

Location

Part 1 takes place in The Old Sessions House, Clerkenwell Green, London (Tube: Farringdon).

Part 2 takes place at Adelard's premises on St John's Street, London (Tube: Farringdon, Angel, Barbican).
