ASCE™ - Browser

ASCE - (Assurance and Safety Case Environment) is a powerful, flexible and highly usable application for creating structured, graphical hypertexts. ASCE is currently being used across a wide range of industries to create, edit and review a wide range of technical documentation such as safety cases, quality documentation, compliance cases, help documentation etc.

The ASCE Browser is an extended web browser for viewing HTML exported ASCE networks.

To use the ASCE browser, simply open the start page of an exported ASCE network, saved on a local or network drive. The ASCE browser will display a zoomable clickable map of the exported network. You can then browse the network by:
  • clicking on nodes in the graphical network map
  • follow embedded links within the network
  • zooming in and out and scrolling around the map
  • the two panes can be resized by dragging the frame between them.
Download
The latest version of the ASCE Browser (1.0.34) can be downloaded.

Change History
  • 27-Nov-2006
ASCE Brower 1.0.34 is released, fixing a bug whereby larger networks would sometimes exhibit a jerky zooming behaviour at larger zoom levels. To benefit from this fix, users should also upgrade to ASCE 3.5.14 which has an improved export behaviour that works with this version of the ASCE Browser.

  • 7th July 2004

  • 24th June 2003

Notes and Requirements
To run the ASCE Browser, simply run the ASCE-Browser.exe executable. You can startup the ASCE Browser with a specific file by passing it the filename on the commandline (e.g.from a batch file or shortcut). Both full or relative paths are permitted (relative paths are useful for creating shortcuts on a CD), e.g.:

            ASCE-Browser.exe exported-network\index.htm
            or
            ASCE-Browser.exe c:\Full\path\to\exported-network\index.htm

Please note the following in order to correctly open an exported ASCE network in the ASCE Browser:
  • The ASCE Browser will successfully load images for an exported ASCE network only when the image format for the exported map is set to be EMF - Enhanced Metafile
  • Currently, the ASCE Browser can only open maps from exported networks that are saved on a local or network drive. Pages that are saved on a webserver will be loaded, but the map will not be fully loaded for zooming.
  • The ASCE Browser works best with networks that have been exported as a collection of files, rather than as one single file.
