Peter Froome was a student at Clare College, Cambridge, where he obtained an MA and PhD. He is a Chartered Engineer, Fellow of the British Computer Society and Chartered IT Professional. Before founding Adelard in 1987 in partnership with Robin Bloomfield, he was employed at the Central Electricity Generating Board's Scientific Services Department at Gravesend. There he developed information systems for Grain power station and one of the very first Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) for condition monitoring at Dungeness B power station, before becoming involved with the assessment of software for nuclear safety systems.
Peter Froome has over 20 years experience as a safety professional. He has been a major contributor to several important standards and guidelines, most recently Issue 3 of Defence Standard 00-56 (safety management of defence systems), and to a guide for MoD Integrated Project Teams on Independent Safety Audit services. Other standards he has worked on include Defence Standard 00-42 Part 2, the military airworthiness standard JSP 318B (now JSP 553), guides on the development of Virtual Instruments and test and measurement software under the DTI's software support for metrology programme, and guidance on the assessment of "software of uncertain pedigree" (SOUP) within an IEC 61508 framework.
He has extensive experience of Independent Safety Audit and Assessment, and leads the ISA team for the MoD's Bowman secure voice and data communications system and the related projects FCBISA, GBAD BriC and JETTS. He also leads the ISA teams for the expeditionary elements of the UK's Air Surveillance and Command System, he led the ISA team for the HSE's eCOSHH system, and works on several other ISA projects.
He has managed a number of safety case development projects, and recently led a project for the MoD's Land Systems Safety Office to review a range of land system safety cases to identify strengths and weaknesses, and develop guidance addressing the findings.
He has acted as Expert Witness in cases involving disputes over design safety and safety-critical software.
He is a member of the IET/BCS Independent Safety Assurance Working Group.

He sings in the Bristol Phoenix Choir and also enjoys playing the piano and fell walking.
