ASCE News:

ASCE™ - Plugins

Plugins are extensions to ASCE that add functionality beyond that provided by the core product — a similar concept to macros found in MS Word and other office software. Sometimes a plugin will be designed to work with a particular schema

Examples of what plugins can do:

  • connect to third party tools and file formats, interrogate them and import data as Dynamic Narrative Regions (DNRs)
  • export data to a range of formats (e.g. XML, MS Word, VML etc)
  • popup windows to present and collect information from the user
  • analyse or modify the structure of a network
  • propagate data values throughout the network
  • query and modify the contents of the node text editor

Adelard has a continuous plugin development programme and regularly releases new and updated plugins between the major product releases.

Developing new plugins

If you're looking for additional functionality in ASCE, such as integration with an in-house system, contact us to discuss having a bespoke plugin written for you.

Alternatively, you may like to try writing your own plugins. Plugins are plain XML files that contain HTML markup for describing the user interface, and VBScript code for the functionality. The draft developer documentation is available for download:
